London, UK, 12th April 1999 – GFI, leading developer of fax, workflow and e-mail add-on software, today announced the new version of FAXmaker for Exchange, version 6.0. The new version includes many new enterprise features such as remote user and fax server administration, least cost routing, user configuration profiles, remote viewing of fax server status, enhanced document rendering and an API toolkit using Comm objects. On the user side, FAXmaker for Exchange 6.0 now includes Outlook fax forms that add fax options such as scheduling, resolution and billing codes to the Outlook menu. Additionally, in the new version, incoming faxes are distinguished from e-mails by a fax icon in the e-mail Inbox.
FAXmaker for Exchange was one of the first fax connectors for Microsoft Exchange server, and was recently awarded the CTI Magazine 1998 Product of the Year Award for its tight integration with Exchange Server. Version 6.0 builds further on the success of its previous versions, and adds important new high-end features. Nick Galea, president of GFI says: "FAXmaker for Exchange 6.0 now includes many enterprise level features that formerly were only available in expensive fax server products. Furthermore, because FAXmaker supports an impressive range of hardware, ranging from a fax modem to an ISDN card or an enterprise fax board such as Brooktrout or Gammalink, FAXmaker is suitable for small to medium-sized businesses as well as large corporations."
New Outlook fax forms With the Outlook fax forms, a ‘Fax to contact’ menu function is added to Outlook, enabling the user to enter the details of the recipient, and select certain fax options such as scheduling, resolution and billing codes.
Support for fax mail merge using Microsoft Office mail merge feature FAXmaker now also includes macros for Microsoft Word, enabling users to create personalized fax mailings by utilizing the powerful mail merge helper of Microsoft Word.
Remote user administration & fax server monitoring/administration FAXmaker for Exchange can now be remotely configured and managed, substantially easing the network administrator’s tasks. In addition, authorized users can start and stop the fax server remotely, as well as view the progress of faxes.
Advanced API using Comm objects The new version of FAXmaker also includes an advanced API toolkit based on Comm objects. Using Comm objects, any application can be programmatically fax enabled. Samples for Microsoft Word, Access, Visual Basic and Excel are included in the product. Other new features are header and footer texts, advanced modem options, and support for more ISDN devices.
